Review: Lodge Logic Pro Cast Iron Griddle And Grill
Since the news came out recently about the danger of cooking with teflon coated cookware, I have been slowly replacing much of mine with either stainless steel or cast iron. I love the flavor cast iron gives to the food you cook. One of the main health benefits when using cast iron cookware is that all the food you cook in it gets a healthy dose of iron.
I will be writing more reviews of some of the cast iron cookware we are receiving as time goes by as we have ordered quite a bit lately.
We were in need of a new griddle and those small single burner ones just were not big enough to feed a family of four in a timely manner. I try to save as much space in my kitchen as possible so I didn’t want another appliance, buying an electric griddle was pretty much out of the question.
Having purchased some cast iron products from Lodge before and being very satisfied, I decided to see what they had for griddles. Now if you have never bought a Lodge product, then you should know that all their cast iron cookware comes pre-seasoned, meaning you do not have to cure it with oil. So basically it is naturally non-stick when you receive it.
After reading the reviews of their griddle, I decided to give it a go. The one I purchased was the Lodge Logic Pro 20-by-10-7/16-Inch Cast-Iron Grill/Griddle. It is reversable so one side is a flat griddle, and the other side is a ridged grill. Here are some pics to illustrate:

The first night we had the griddle I cooked up some steaks on the grill side. They came out nice and seared on the outside, with the grill marks, and medium rare in the middle. The grill fits perfectly over two of my burners and setting them on medium was more than hot enough. Cast iron holds heat extremely well, and it took me a few tries to get the temperature just right.
Today we used the griddle side to cook up the big breakfast with bacon, eggs, pancakes and sausage. Everything came out great.
A nice feature this griddle has is this little ridge on one side of the pan. It collects the excess oil and grease. This really comes in handy when your cooking fatty meats such as bacon.
This griddle isn’t for the weak though. It weighs a hefty 15 pounds but all cast iron is heavy. I made up some hooks on the wall behind the stove where I can hang it. I just didn’t want this thing falling out of a cupboard somewhere and landing on my foot. 🙂
Overall this product is great and the price was more than reasonable. We purchased it over at Amazon for $37.00 and the shipping was free. Getting free shipping on anything that weighs 15 pounds is a bargain in itself.
